Environmental Compliance

As a global manufacturer, our operations and products are subject to a wide variety of environmental regulations and standards. Ensuring that we meet all the regulatory requirements that apply to our products and operations is essential to our success as trusted suppliers to our customers, responsible members of the communities where we operate, and good stewards of our shareholders’ capital. Our commitment to environmental responsibility is also reflected in our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, consider sustainability in the product development process, and operate more efficiently by reducing water and energy consumption and producing less waste.

Managing Environmental Compliance

Given our global footprint and the diversity of our products and operations, environmental compliance is primarily the responsibility of facility-level EHS professionals who operate with oversight and guidance from operating company management and the Dover corporate center. Specific environmental compliance practices vary depending on our operating companies’ product lines, the unique needs of their customers, and the jurisdictions in which they operate. Environmental compliance efforts at our operating companies generally include some or all of the following:

  • Following internationally recognized best practice standards for environmental management systems like International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001
  • Conducting external and internal audits of environmental compliance annually (or in some cases more frequently) against standards such as ISO 14001 or the 0ʮ.cc framework, including tracking any findings or gaps and establishing action plans to address them
  • Sharing best practices between sites to drive continuous improvement
  • Leveraging feedback from environmental audits and proactively sharing with other sites to prevent issues before they occur
  • Maintaining documentation and records of compliance with environmental laws and regulations, including through audits, materials tracking, waste transfer records and certifications from suppliers that inputs do not contain hazardous materials
  • Implementing site-specific or operating company-wide environmental policies such as Markem-Imaje’s
  • Educating Dover EHS professionals about new regulatory developments, emerging market trends, and managing regulatory obligations
  • Improving air quality by reducing emissions from volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and greenhouse gases (GHGs)

Dover operating companies are also committed to ensuring their products comply with global product-related regulations, which can vary depending on where the product will be sold, the product’s application, and the nature of the end user. Product compliance is an intrinsic aspect of our design and innovation process. Dover operating companies stay abreast of environmental, legal, and regulatory developments through the efforts of their engineering and product safety professionals, their involvement in industry groups, and their participation in regular training offered by corporate management and trusted outside experts.
